Good morning witches!
Over the years it still amazes me the reaction you can some times get when the subject of Tarot comes up. For me they are an esenssal part of my daily practice and of my craft. I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now if It wasn’t for my interest in the cards.
it was 15 years ago when I brought my fist deck of Rider Waite (smith) cards. Yes I brought my first deck, and all my decks since – it is a myth that you have to be gifted your first deck. Nice if you can get some one to payout for them but there is nothing wrong with buying your own I brought them from a Tarot shop web site and I was so excited when they came. I remember that the company had a little thing of putting two cards from a random deck in to the packaging. I still remember those two cards. Hierophant and High Priestess, which as I look back over the years now they where a good indication of where I would go and what I would do with my new found spiritual path.
When I bumped in to my first teacher back in the day the first thing he taught me was how to use and do readings with the cards. And it started a passion that has never left me.
Currently me and Rachael (rachaelsreikieandbeyond) are teaching our second “Not just any old Tarot” course on a Tuesday night. Its the first time I’ve done any teaching since the start of lockdown’s and all things covid so I was a bit nerves on the first session that it might not go to well, but I shouldn’t have worried as by about 10 minutes in we hit our stride and I remembered now much I love teaching out the secrets of the cards.
It’s my belief that every witch should have some form of Divination tool in the tool box, be that Tarot, tea leafs, Runes, bone throwing, or cloud watching. And I would encourage any one who is setting out on their path to spend some time looking in to the options. Divination isn’t all about seeing what the future holds. The future isn’t set in stone. Personal choice, freedom of choice, will always change the way the future is played out. Yet I’ve found that you’ll always end up where you should be at the right time as long as you hold on to your inner beliefs and have the intent to be honest and true. Divination is more about the connection between yourself and your Deities and guides, to your ancestors and spirit people, then spending hours gazing in to a crystal ball to try and see what the Lottery numbers will be next week.
Life gets in the way most of the time so giving yourself the time to self care is some times a hard enough find, let alone to spend time walking through meadows and woodland with the Goddess, is for most of us near enough impossible most of the time. Something else will always manage to bump it’s self up the todo list, the kids need picking up, you’ve got extra hours to do at work, something will always get in the way no matter how hard we try to find the time.
So giving yourself 5 minutes with your cards just to check in with your ancestors might just be the only way they have of getting messages through to you. (dreams as well but that’s a whole new subject). Now I have a daily reading that I do every day before I leave the house, which I have done every day for the last 10 years or so……only time I didn’t do it was when I was in hospital after my heart attack. And yes my heart attack was predicted, I just didn’t see it at the time. But anyway, daily reading before I leave the house. It’s a spread that I came up with myself based on a 3 card pull. And it gives me a feeling for the day of what might happen, who I might have to watch out for and how I’m going to best cope with the day. I note it down in my daily journal, so that I can look back on it and see if I was correct on my interpretation (which I mostly am, and the cards drawn are usually 95% correct).
As well as doing readings for others, which again is another subject, my love affair with the cards has a very much more personal and deep connection with my spiritual side and that’s why I love them. They are my Divination tool of choice and I would never be with out them. I do carry them around with me most of the time and they always offer me guidance and understanding when I need that little bit of extra help. I could list all the times they have made me re-think a choice or warned me off going a certain way and it’s always worked out how it should do. They are the first to tell me that I’m in a downward spin and they tell me when that is coming to an end. The only thing they are not so hot on with me is material choices but I guess that’s because it’s not an area of life I’m particularly interested in.
For me being with out my Tarot deck would be like trying to get through life with a limb missing, do able but not the best.
We will be running the course again towards the end of the year and if you would like to start looking after your own deck then join the mailing list (email list sign up) so that you’ll get a notice when we publish the dates.
Have a blessed week, Laters witches!
